A rare but common condition affecting entrepreneurs

The reason most people stay stuck is because they refuse to invest in their education.

A lot of entrepreneurs new to the online space are afraid to spend more than they make, or will refuse to buy any training that doesn't promise an ROI in 30 days. Or worse, they’ll refuse to buy any trainings at all, thinking they’re better off figuring things out on their own.

This is a scarcity mindset.

And it held me back for years.

Things I learned in 5 years, I could have learned in 5 months if I'd wisely invested my money instead of foolishly investing my time (the one thing you can’t get back) trying to figure it all out on my own.

Just the other day I had a call with a young professional.

He’s been at it for 2 years with no sales for his digital product. Trying everything. Working with another coach who apparently wasn't delivering. Ready to try something different.

So I offered him something different and told him to sleep on it.

Next day he wrote to tell me he was going to give it another year trying the same thing.

Meanwhile, I can see him implementing the notes from our call.

But here's the thing about those notes, they’re the strategy, not the tactics. They’re not the "here's exactly what to do in order to execute this properly." More like a compass pointing in the right direction than a detailed map that get’s you where you’re trying to go.

And when people take that compass and say, "Oh, I can probably do this on my own," they usually end up more confused than when they started.

I've done this myself more times than I feel comfortable admitting. I'd get on a call, scratch down a few notes, try to implement on my own, and get mediocre results at best, give up, and try something different. Not because the strategy was wrong. But because without the deeper context and ongoing guidance, it was like working with a compass, but no map.

I see the same thing happening to other folks too, like our hero from today’s email.

Committing to another year of confusion.

All to say, maybe there is no "other coach."

Maybe there is just this guy, hopping on calls with strangers on the internet over and over again, taking notes, trying to implement what he can for free. Putting years of his life on the line, and continuing to not get results, because the only information he has access to is surface-level strategy.

No insight for deep implementation.

So what about you?

Do you ever find yourself doing these things? You get on a call with someone you think can help, get an insight or two, tell them you'll think about it, try to implement yourself for a few weeks, get few if any results, and think, "this doesn't work"?

If so, you might be suffering from what I like to call:

Un-willing-to-invest-in-your-self-itis.

And as a coach who sells education, this might sound self-serving. But keep in mind, I don’t actually don’t make a living off teaching. I make a living off done-for-you implementations of what I teach. The coaching is just a way to give back.

In other words, I make most of my money by implementing what I teach, not teaching what I teach.

So if that gives you any reason to believe I might know a thing or two about what I'm talking about, here's the link to apply to work with me and learn more.
