Add flavor to your offer by asking for favors
You know what?
I was going to charge $97 for today’s email.
Not kidding….
I had the sales page halfway written and the payment link ready to go.
But then I thought… you know what?
You've been reading my emails, you've stuck around through thick and thin, and you deserve better.
So here's what I'm going to do instead. I’m going to give you a powerful persuasion principle for free, right here, right now, at no charge what-so-ever.
Here’s how it works…
I want you to think back to last time you were in a negotiation…
Maybe you were buying or selling a used car. Negotiating your salary at your job. Deciding where to eat at with your partner when you both want different things. Or even working hard to convince your children to go to bed on time when they really just want to stay up late have you read them another story before bed.
Did the person on the other end ask for a concession?
A cheaper price? A “just this one time….”? A “we need to try something new…”?
Maybe part of you felt compelled to give in and just give the other person what they wanted? And maybe another part of you thought you deserved a little in consideration for all you’re bring to table?
Justifiable…
Because negotiation isn’t about deal squashing the other person down the lowest common denominator. It’s about play, collaboration, and cooperation.
Will you scratch my back if I scratch yours?
But what if the other party doesn’t want to scratch?
“The price is firm.”
“Some place new or nowhere at all.”
“I’m not going to bed no matter what you say.”
Well that’s just no fun at all. In that case, how might you cajole your would be collaborator to cooperate and play along?
Would you like a hint?
It has something to do with reciprocity…
And I’ll tell you what is, but before I do, I’ll give you one last chance to guess while I ask you for a small favor.
Hit reply and tell me the last time you made an offer and it flopped.
Just once sentence.
It could be a product launch, a pitch to a client, a DM that went nowhere… doesn’t matter.
I’m collecting anonymous stories for a project I’m working on and yours would help.
Did you notice how much easier it was to consider saying yes to my request after I “gave up” that $97?
That’s the concession-favor combo at work, baby!
Of course, you’re smart enough to see through my little demonstration but I bet you’re still tempted to hit reply right?
That’s because this works even when people know you’re doing it.
It’s hard-wired into our biology.
It goes way back to you negotiating the rules of your neighborhood freeze-tag game with all the other kids in your town.
There’s a little give, and a little take, a little competition, a little rivalry, but all in good cooperation.
And even if you don’t hit reply, you take advantage of something valuable I have for you inside The Nature Marketing Community by clicking the link below:
All the best,
