Cop asks me if I'm alright

One thing I like to do is spend a lot of time walking around barefoot outside.

Tons of health benefits…

Too many to list here, and while I hope my daily insights improve your health, I’m not here to teach you about movement, I’m here to teach you about marketing.

So without further ado…

In between bouts of writing at home, I love to stop and take walks around the block to get sun, fresh air, movement, and keep my thoughts flowing so I don’t get all caught up in staring at a blinking cursor all day.

Less so now…

But I used to be very adamant about walking through the streets and fields near my home, which admittedly, I already know most people will think this is weird since I live in a city where most folks can’t imagine leaving their bedroom without a pair of shoes on.

Maybe I’ve gotten a bit more soft in my old age…

But none-the-less, I was walking through the street, barefoot, near my home one day and a patrol car pulls up and the cop inside asks, “are you alright?”

And I was like, “yeah, why do you ask?”

“Because you’re not wearing any shoes…”

All right… I get it… this seems strange, maybe he thinks I got lost on the wrong side of town, maybe he thinks I’m on something… but in reality… no… I’m fine… I’m more than fine… in fact, arguably since I regularly walk barefoot, I’m probably more fine than he is.

But I just simply reply, “It’s good for you,” and we both mosey on about our days.

Something worth thinking about.

What are you doing, out of the convenience of overly-abiding social norms that might not be good for you, but you do it anyway, because “that’s just what everyone does”.

Now I’m sure you can think of some good reasons to wear shoes in the street.

I’m not going to argue that…

But what I am going to argue is that if you do the opposite of what people expect, it’s going to get attention.

And maybe you can use that to stand out a bit more in the marketplace.
