Is this lifestyle accessory destroying your writing confidence?
One of my favorite things to share on Threads are my controversial life hacks.
I’ve always gone against the grain.
And maybe you have too?
Most entrepreneurs do…
Well, two weeks ago I shared one of my favorite life hacks on Threads and it got mixed reviews. Here’s what caused the controversy:
I said the most underrated life hack is not wearing sunglasses.
And a traveler bloke replies:
===
“This is not a hack. Your skin near your eyes is a lot thinner and more prone to wrinkles, etc… You don’t need to absorb vitamin D there — if this is what you mean.”
===
Valid point…
My man want’s to reduce wrinkling around his eyes…
But I’m not sure avoiding sunlight there will do the trick because I haven’t seen any evidence to support that. But even if there is evidence for it, that’s not the point.
Just then, my man the sunglasses salesman comes to the rescue:
===
“This is legit. And I own part of a sunglasses company. It’s not about the skin around your eyes, it’s about sunlight absorption into your retinas.”
===
Bingo! — I trust this man…
And maybe you do too?
Because he has a vested interest in selling sunglasses, yet he’s willing to admit that his product isn’t perfect. And it has some drawbacks. It might have benefits as well, such as — looking cool, eliminating damage to your eye sight when forced to look near the direction of the sun (such as while driving), and to make it easier to see on bright winter days where sunlight reflections can be overwhelming — and more, I’m sure.
But the point is…
Most people get distracted by new tools, new gadgets, and new life hacks, when the real secret to better thinking, smarter writing, and enhanced creativity has nothing to do with the latest AI prompt.
And everything to do with doing as your ancestors did.
Bottom line:
Your eyes NEED to take in unfiltered light to regulate your circadian rhythm, optimize hormone production, and improve cognitive function. And when sunlight comes in through windows, glasses, or sunglasses, it’s filtered.
So I can guarantee 99.9% of people reading this (myself included) aren’t getting enough unfiltered light into their eyes.
Which is one of the reasons Crystal and I are considering a move to the Sonoran Desert in the near future because it has the most sunny days per year.
But the reason I tell you all this is because unfiltered light boosts cognitive function, enhances creativity and problem solving, and improves resilience and self-confidence.
And great writing is confidence in print.
So if you want to be a better writer, thinker, and entrepreneur.
Ditch the shades.
And perhaps I’m preaching to the choir, but our ancestors weren’t glued to screens and artificial lighting all day.
So from an evolutionary perspective, you shouldn’t be either.
Anyway, 15 Legendary Writing Secrets will be released at the end of this week and I couldn’t be more excited. So if you want free access, and you haven’t replied back yet, just reply back “WRITING SECRETS” and I’ll get you more details when it’s ready.
Happy life-hacking,
Kevin Hood
