What can you trade besides subscribers?

In my early days of email marketing, I was learning everything I could.

And I often heard about the effectiveness of list swaps, but quickly discounted them.

I figured I was too small, or it was too much work, or there was too much risk in reaching out to someone with a bigger audience and either having it flop, or feeling like I didn’t have much value to give to their audience.

So I did what any reasonable, slightly-introverted adult would do, and I avoided it.

But eventually, a few things changed my mind.

The first of which I wrote about in yesterday’s email. Where you can in fact give value to someone’s bigger audience by sharing a small, humble, and early piece of advice to all the people on their list who are brand new people who are just getting started.

But the second of which is that you can trade other things of value.

Your time, more emails, free work, something you built specifically for someone else’s audience that makes them look good and their work more effective like some sort of template, spreadsheet, or tool based on what they teach.

There are lots of things you can trade.

Because after all, if you’re in email marketing, you’re in the content biz, and everyone in the content biz is always looking for more content.

And if you can make life easier for people with big lists, then it’s a win for them and it’s a win for you.

Anyway, all to say, after I wrote about my recent list swap with Kieran Drew, Kody Duncan from Growth Tools reached out and asked if I wanted to do a list swap with him for List Match.

Immediately I said yes.

Because I was already signed up to List Match. I’d already recommended it to a few of my closest colleagues. And I’ve already begun receiving interest and inquiries through their matching platform. I just haven’t acted on any of them yet because I was focused first on my swap with Kieran, and now my Swap with List Match.

And for now, I’d like to focus on lining up one at a time, and keeping them high quality because I don’t ever want to promote something I wouldn’t personally use or don’t personally believe in.

So this week, they’re promoting me and I’m promoting them.

Which makes it a win-win.

Their readers get to learn about building better lead magnets with Minimum Viable Email List. And my readers get to learn about a free platform to help them get their feet wet with list swaps.

So if you've ever considered doing one, I recommend getting matched here:
