When things get weird (here’s what I do)

Entrepreneurin’ ain’t easy.

On occasion, you will find yourself spending time on things that don’t really matter in your business at all.

Maybe this is an elaborate form or procrastination?

Either way, it can feel a bit unsettling when it happens.

Like for example:

I recently made a huge technical blunder.

Maybe you’ve had experience with something like this yourself? Where you try to make your life easier, better, faster, etc… by trying out some new bit of technology. But after a few hours of experimentation you realize, you’ve not saved yourself any time, money, or frustration at all.

Instead you’ve amplified the expense of all three.

Adopting new technology always costs something on the front end.

But for me, and my somewhat insatiable curiosity when it comes to these these, I’m learning I need a better filter. Because I’ve just used up a good 5 or 6 hours of my week experimenting with something I shouldn’t have experimented with, and was feeling a bit overwhelmed by it.

So here’s what I do when things get scary…

I go for a walk.

I walk along the river or through the woods where I live. In these natural settings, many of life’s problems seem to get resolved or melt away. And by the time I’m back at my front door, I’ve usually got a clear understanding of how best to spend my time or solve the problem that lies ahead.

Looking back, I wish I’d spent that 5 or 6 hours on the writing guide updates because then they’d be done by now.

But I did learn something very valuable in all of this.

And that is how much value truly lies in keeping things simple.

So here’s the link to the writing guide (get it at a discount now and get the update free):
