Average subscriber growth (2024 vs Now)

Back in 2024, I averaged ~44 subscribers per month from writing on Threads.

I barely knew what I was doing.

And if I remember correctly, I’d just barely crossed the 1,000 follower threshold at the start of that year.

But when 2025 hit, I took a nap on Threads related list growth.

Why?

Well January 1st, 2025 is the day I started sending daily emails again. It was something I did back in 2020 while teaching and coaching personal development online, and honestly, I just missed it. It’s a daily habit that pays dividends in self-development, mastery of your craft, building relationships with your readers, and more…

But since then, my list growth stalled.

I told myself that daily email lists just grow slower than weekly newsletters.

And maybe to some degree that’s true.

But looking at the recent data, it’s possible that was just a comfortable story to tell myself.

Here’s what things looked like in 2024:

Not bad, but like I said, since then, I’ve gone all in on writing daily emails again, and I took my eye off the ball on what it takes to grow your list while writing on Threads.

The truth is…

For most of 2025, I didn’t put enough effort into promoting free educational resources, I didn’t put enough effort into writing long-form content on threads (one of the biggest needle movers for growing your list), and I didn’t put enough effort into promoting the content that would go out in the next days email the night before (nor did I promote the content that had just been recently published on my website the day after).

All things that clearly brought in new subscribers to my email list.

All things I either blatantly ignored, or only half-heatedly put into practice in 2025.

And looking at the data, and what worked best from everything I listed above, I’m surprised I hadn’t been doubling down on all of it this past year. Because every time I put just a little bit of effort in, I get steady flow of results out of it.

Case in point, here’s the data from just the last 12 weeks:

Not quite back up to par with my average from 2024, but if I’ve learned anything about list growth, whether it’s organic or paid, it all relies on momentum.

Think of it like a natural well that you’d find at a local campground.

Here in The States, it’s usually a big green cast iron pipe jutting out of the ground next to a concrete pad. You heave the handle up and down and up and down, and at first… you get nothing.

A hollow gurgle from somewhere deep inside the earth.

But you keep pumping, and eventually the water rises, pressure builds, and suddenly the well starts pulling the water up easily for you, with minimal effort.

Stop pumping, though?

It runs for a bit… then slows… then eventually stops.

Let go completely and the water drops back below the surface, and you’re right back where you started. Pumping and pumping just to get the flow going again.

List growth works the same way.

Attention, interest, and subscribers… they all rise with steady effort. But if you neglect the well too long, the system resets. And of course, once the water’s flowing, you still have to be smart. You don’t want to pour into a bucket full of holes. You don’t want to splash it all over the ground with no container. And you don’t want to fill more jugs than you’ll ever use.

There’s an art to managing the flow… but a steady flow beats getting frantic during a drought every time.

It means no scrambling when bills are due, no desperately jumping from one launch to the next, and no staring at a screen wondering, “why isn’t anything working?”

Just steady, predictable growth.

And in 2024, I had a golden goose growing mine on Threads, but in 2025 I neglected the well. So in 2026, that’s all going to change. And I’m going to double down on everything that’s been working with the goal of doubling my results from the past 6 weeks. That means I’m aiming for 84 new email subscribers by mid January.

I’ve already compiled all the strategies outlined above and more in my upcoming guide — Threads Organic Traffic.

Which, for those who don’t know this was originally just supposed to be Legendary Writing Secrets V2 (but it took on a life of its own). And now it’s got everything you need to know to up your content game as well all the strategies for positioning yourself properly and growing your list on Threads.

So 15 Legendary Writing Secrets just lives inside Threads Organic Traffic now.

And Threads Organic Traffic will most likely live inside my upcoming membership when it’s ready.

Which is also where you’ll get a behind the scenes look at all the paid and organic list growth experiments I’ll be running in 2026. With exactly what I’m doing. What’s working. What’s not. And exclusive interviews with other people who are getting results too.
