Fortune favors the unreasonably self-confident
Back in 2020, I basically quit my construction business to go all in on building online.
This was pre-pandemic, but basically lucky timing I suppose.
Anyway…
I went from zero clients, zero sales, and zero idea what I was doing to speaking in front of more than 1,000+ people at a global online conference without any credientialing, real training, or certifications in less than 6 months.
I just went for it…
I voluntarily shut down my biggest income stream, then not soon after, the rest were forcibly shut down by the U.S. Government due to the pandemic. I didn't know at the time they'd start handing out a bunch of free money, nor did I care, I just knew as an entrepreneur it was all on me and I needed to make something happen fast.
So I moped around for 9 days.
Seriously…
I was kinda like, “What should I do now…?”
But on the 10th day, I just decided to say “F* IT” and host my very first online workshop. Even though I had no clear topic, no clear audience, and no idea what I was even going to do or say…
I decided to just be unreasonably self-confident and make it happen.
And over the next few days, things began to take shape.
I came up with a title, outlined some key points, set up a “pay if you can” registration page, and within two weeks I successfully hosted my first online workshop and had 14 very happy paying customers.
Fast forward 6 months…
I’m speaking in front of more 1,000+ online attendees at a global embodiment conference, alongside several of my heroes in business and personal development: Paul Chek, Jack Kornfield, Gabor Maté, Tad Hargrave, etc…
Not too long after that, I’m enrolling students into my very first paid, online, group coaching program.
(Using my first successful sales letter + email marketing campaign ever).
And I say none of this to brag…
Obviously it’s small potatoes, good timing, lots of luck, and while I make it sound simple, it was actually a ton of work, and probably the result of years of hustling and learning on the side while running my other business.
But that’s the point:
“Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity”.
So says the Roman philosopher Seneca…
But beyond that…
I also mention it to illustrate how slightly changing your approach to marketing can make all the difference in the world.
First of all, speaking in front of more than 1,000+ people changes things. Secondly, doing it alongside people who are literally world famous, and arguably drawing the biggest crowds, tens of thousands, even hundreds, easy during the same event… also changes things.
It'll change your perception of yourself, but it'll also change other people’s perceptions of you as well.
So that’s something to think about in the weeks and months that lie ahead.
Whether your focus is to grow your list or enroll more clients or both…
Is it just you promoting you?
Or are other people doing it for you?
(The second one can make a big difference…)
Also something we cover, in depth, including where to look, how to reach out to potential collaborators, and how to present yourself persuasively so that you can take advantage of the highest leverage traffic source to your list and offers that exists on the internet right now (and probably forever because that’s how human nature works) — but something we cover in depth inside Email Sales Accelerator.
