Right place at the right time
Here’s a single tiny habit I’ve developed that’s produced far bigger results than it had any right to recently compared to the amount of effort I put in.
But first, you’ll need a bit of context to make sure you know how this can work for you too.
Let’s start with some things you may already know…
I’m an email guy.
I write daily emails for myself. I write email marketing campaigns for clients. I teach email marketing. I do email marketing. I pretty much live and breathe email marketing at this point.
So that’s the first bit of helpful context.
If you know what you’re known for, or want to be known for, then this could work for you too.
The second bit of context is that I’m an email hoarder.
I subscribe to email lists, and newsletters, and publications, and I create filters inside my inbox, and have them all neatly archived and organized for anytime I need inspiration or want to see what a particular brand I’m interested is up to.
It only takes a few extra moments to setup when subscribing to someone’s list.
But it also makes me more intentional about which lists I actually subscribe to, and it keeps my inbox ridiculously clean. Like I have zero emails in my inbox at the end of every week. Yet thousands are available in my archives.
Many of these people are potential customers, clients, collaborators, and more.
If the first bit of context is something like: “What you do.”
Then this second bit of context is something like: “Who you help and where they tend to hang out.”
On to the tiny habit I mentioned.
Recently I started working with a brand who happened to be my personal top 10 of my Dream 100 list. Basically, the list of dream customers, clients, and collaborators I’d love most to work with in the world.
Previously I had no expectation they’d ever want to make use of my services.
But due to this tiny habit, I got my “foot in the door” so to speak, and once inside I was able to see all myriad ways in which the ace I was holding in my hand would fit squarely inside the royal flush they were hoping to create in theirs.
It was almost too perfect I’d say.
Like maybe the universe is conspiring for our mutual success. Anyway, at this point, you might be wondering what that tiny little habit is. Well, I’m only going to reveal it to you if you reply back to this email and tell me:
- What you do, and…
- Who you help.
If you do, I’ll reveal the tiny habit that’s led to an out-sized impact in my business. And if possible, I might suggest a variation of it that might work for you too.
That’s it for today.
All the best.
Talk soon,
Kevin Hood
