Secret club invite

Subject Lines:

  • How to make your offer feel more like a secret club.

In my early 20s, I was part of a very exclusive club.

I was invited by my neighbors, an older couple that lived a few houses down. They were really inspiring to me in my youth because even though they were older, they were fixtures in the local art & music scene.

I honestly never had a chance to meet old people that were “cool” before.

I mean they could really hang with all the young kids no matter how loud our music got. Anyway, they both worked in the trades. He did carpentry. She did paint and plaster. And outside of their work they made art, played music, and regularly hosted events on their square acre lot (almost half an entire city block) in one of the most in-demand, and sought after neighborhoods in the entire city of Detroit.

They had a giant historic home and a surprising amount of land. Not because they were rich. But because they were resourceful.

And on that land they gardened, hosted parties, had green space for lounging and bonfires, and plenty of room for people to mosey and mingle during the seasonal events they hosted at their private art gallery and local, home-made community food co-op.

Crazy stuff. Inspiring to say the least.

Always a pleasure to be around, forward thinking, wise, and generous with their resources. But they didn’t let just anyone into their inner circle. Their twice-weekly “club meetings” featured a small cast of rotating characters who were all very special and unique.

I was one of them. I was their neighbor. I liked them. And they liked me. So we all spent lots of time together.

Especially in the winter, we’d cozy up next to the roaring wood stove over cups of coffee, in the old historic horse stalls they converted into their hidden co-op / coffee shop / art gallery tucked away in the alley behind their house.

We’d sit and talk for hours. It was quite a treat. And it really just felt amazing to be a part of the “in-crowd”. It wasn’t long before I started volunteering my own time to make our secret club meetings just a little bit better, and little more enjoyable for everyone involved.

Now here’s why I’m telling you all this…

That same feeling… the feeling of being on the inside… the feeling of having access to something rare and special… the feeling of being included in special moments… and special meetings… and the feeling of being given special privileges… or special information…

That’s the exact same feeling you want to build desire for when marketing your offers. Not necessarily all the time, in every email, or every communication.

But every so often, you want to remind people that your secret club exists.

And paint a nice little picture of what life might be like for your prospects should they decide to approach the velvet rope and ask to be let inside.

So when you’re ready, give this secret handshake to the doorman when you ask to be let inside:
