The lazy fisherman

Gather ‘round kids, it’s time for your old uncle Kevin to tell you a story…

Once upon a time, a bushiness man watched a fisherman lounging with his family.

"Why don't you fish longer?" he asked.

"You could earn more, buy more boats, build an empire, and one day retire to enjoy life with your family."

The fisherman smiled.

"But I'm doing that now."

In my late 20s, I had serious health problems. Did the work to heal. Changed my diet, got into fitness, rebuilt my body, and felt better than ever.

Then I started my construction business.

And slowly, my health began to fall by the wayside again.

I think it had to do with the mindset of building a business to make ends meet instead of building a business a business I was truly passionate about. Construction wasn’t the thing I actually wanted to be doing.

I wanted to write and teach online, study marketing, and dig into personal development.

There's a time and place for grinding on something that pays the bills but doesn't light you up. But pushing hard to build a business you're not aligned with?

That'll catch up with you.

If you're genuinely excited about building boring businesses, great… go all in.

But if you're not?

You’ll quit when things get hard.

A young man DM’ed me to ask about this very same thing today.

He's been writing on Threads for years, trying to figure out why it's not working when he sees it working for so many others. He told me about all the different projects he was juggling.

But here’s the deal…

He’s 23.

I told him to forget trying to monetize Threads.

I told him to find what he’s actually passionate about and go all in. I told him to focus on developing a monetizable skill and write about that journey online. Everyone’s in a hurry to monetize…

But no one’s in a hurry to create something valuable.

And when you love what you do, trust me, it’s impossible to fail.
