This man deserves an award

Yesterday I posted a story on the internet.

And this was the response:

Beyond that…

Nothing. No likes. No comments. No shares. No “this changed my life” messages in my inbox. Pretty much just crickets.

But this isn’t unusual for storytelling.

Some of my best and worst posts on the internet are all stories. That’s because storytelling is one of the hardest types of content to get right. But once you do get it right, it’s also one of the most rewarding types.

And they’re not going to make you rich and famous overnight. But they will build a bond with your readers that’s immeasurably tough to break.

Personally, storytelling has gotten me the attention of other creators with larger audiences. Had people slide into my DMs and say this exactly, “Let’s book a call, I’m ready to pay.” And I’ve received more than 20 million views just on storytelling posts alone.

Stories have been the glue of society for centuries, and a little bit of AI and social media isn’t going to change that.

And if you like neuroscience, here’s how that works:

When someone tells you a story, your brain produces three chemicals: oxytocin, dopamine, and endorphins. These are the chemicals associated with enhanced memory, trust, bonding, improved focus, and an overall sense of well being in your body.

That’s why you remember the stories your favorite teacher told but forgot everything on the test.

That’s why people scroll right past “5 tips to grow your business” but stop to read “10 years ago I walked through Whole Foods with freshly printed business cards feeling like a total fraud.”

Perhaps Steve Jobs said it best…

"The most powerful person in the world is the storyteller. The storyteller sets the vision, values, and agenda of an entire generation that is to come."

Bottom line, anyone who has the guts to say something in a way that makes other people it, will have a much easier time rallying folks together to build something bigger than themselves.

Yesterday I show you how most educational content falls flat because people are teaching the boring way.

Today I’m going to show you how to fix that with stories.

Well, not exactly…

If you haven’t signed up for the Influential Writing System yet, you’ll start back at day 1 with swiping and deploying your first piece of content while getting acquainted. But by day three, you’ll be doing it with stories too.

If you haven’t grabbed the dashboard yet, today’s a perfect day to jump in.
