May the 4th be with you…
One of my favorite movies of all time:
Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope
I especially love the classic line from Han Solo…
The one he says to Luke right before the Battle of Yavin.
The Rebel Alliance is getting ready to launch their final, last ditch attack on the Death Star from their secret base hidden on the moon planet Yavin 4.
Just before Luke Jumps in his X-Wing, Han stops him:
“Luke… may the Force be with you.”
But just a few days earlier, he was mocking Luke’s training aboard Millenium Falcon:
“Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid.”
I love that because it shows a transformation taking place.
Han doesn’t even believe in The Force quite yet. But he’s beginning to believe in Luke. And he’s beginning to believe in the idea that there might be something bigger than himself worth dedicating his life to.
Freedom.
Hope.
And the fact that maybe, just maybe, there’s more to life than having a few credits in your pocket. That’s what happens when you surround yourself with people who believe.
And since the 4th of July is officially upon us…
It’s worth asking yourself:
Who are you standing next to this year?
Maybe you’re at a backyard barbecue with family or friends. And your proverbial Han Solo wanders over to ask you how your “hokey little online business idea” is doing?
Maybe they’re smirking behind the gluten free burger buns.
In the back of their mind they’re thinking you should just get a normal job like everyone else. Reminds me of Han Solo in that Falcon scene.
But imagine telling them you doubled last year’s revenue.
Or that you replaced your paycheck.
Or that you get to wake up and work when you want, with who you want, and that you wouldn’t trade it for the world. A freedom business that you’re proud of.
Maybe you’ll even show them how it’s possible.
And give them something to believe in too.
That’s how it spreads.
After a decade in this game. And years helping coaches, thought leaders, and educators through the power of email. I want to make sure The Force is with you this year.
We could all use a little Obi-Wan in our corner.
