The Greek fighter who won the Olympic gold after he died
You’re probably familiar with the black knight in Monty Python and the Holy Grail who gets his arm sliced clean off in a sword fight and doesn’t flinch.
King Arthur stands there, stunned.
"I've won!"
But the Black Knight keeps fighting, loses his other arm, then loses both legs, and still keeps talking trash from the ground.
Most people think it's just absurdist comedy.
But there's a theory that the black knight isn't just a joke and that he might be based on a real person from Greek history.
Arrichion of Phigalia.
In 564 BC, the ancient Olympic games, there was an event called pankration. Which is basically like MMA with no rules, no rounds, no time limit, and no mercy. You win when your opponent submits or can no longer continue.
Arrichion was already a two-time champion walking into this match.
But midway through, his opponent locked an arm around his throat and started choking him out.
Arrichion was fading fast.
Most people would tap out.
But in his last moment of consciousness, Arrichion twisted violently and wrenched his opponent’s toe clean out of the joint. Apparently, the pain was so severe that his opponent tapped out in surrender.
But in that same moment, Arrichion’s body went limp.
He was dead.
His opponent had landed the choke, but unfortunately submitted before the match had ended. As a result of how the rules were written at the time, Arrichion was declared Olympic champion, his lifeless body was crowned with an olive wreath, and was carried out of the arena to the roar of the crowd.
He won the gold while dead.
But most people creating content have the opposite problem.
The moment things get hard, or life get’s busy, or motivation disappears, the content stops and the momentum they’ve worked so hard to build gets lost.
Their system gives up on them.
Or more accurately, they never had a real system to begin with.
Just vibes and willpower which eventually run out.
Which is why it’s important to have a writing system that works harder than you do. And one that works even when you don’t.
That’s what the writing system I teach inside the TNM community is built to solve.
When life get’s busy, or you’re out of ideas…
It keeps hanging on, and like Arrichion, and it doesn’t tap out.
